New Neutrals

Neutral Colour Palettes for Autumn/ Winter Fashion

There’s an autumnal chill in the air and I’m reaching for my trusty grey cashmere sweater and jeans again. Neutral shades are a bit of a no brainer at this time of year and I think it’s fair to say that we have all got a decent amount of trusted neutral pieces in our wardrobes. That’s a good thing of course, but sometimes you just want to mix it up a bit and this is where ‘new neutrals’ come in to their own because they have the ability to transform whatever you a are wearing from meh to interesting. I’m talking animal prints, soft pinks and olive greens – my three favourite new neutrals:

Leopard Print

Leopard print will have you looking on point this season. There are an awful lot of leopard print coats out there and this one from Topshop is getting a lot of attention. It’s not quite right for me just yet (watch this space though) but I do love leopard print accessories which I would style with crisp white shirts and jeans for example. It’s not exactly a novel approach but it’s definitely a classic combo. Choose raw edge jeans to bring your outfit bang up to date. Leopard print works with absolutely anything so get creative!

Pink

Let’s just say that pink is having a bit of a moment. It has seamlessly sneaked its way into our Autumn wardrobes and I for one, am happy to welcome it with open arms. Pink has the power add an unexpected twist and lift any outfit. I love how Alex from The Frugality has teamed her pink Bella Freud sweater with this silver M&S midi skirt in the image below – note the leopard print heels too! There are some beautiful coats in the softest shades of pink in the shops, this one from Modern Rarity by John Lewis is gorgeous and looks very cosy for cold winter days.

Khaki

This is such a great colour, treat it as you would navy or black. It has certainly earned its new neutral stripes in my opinion and I think you can’t go far wrong with some khaki trousers for the season ahead. These ones from GAP are a great length and will allow you to flash a little bit of ankle or you could op for a lux style jogger like these ones from Hush. If you still need convincing you can read about my top seasonal khaki buys here.

So what do you think? Are you on board with these new neutral shades and a touch of leopard print?

The thing with leopard is at what pint does it become a bit Bet Lynch and less Kate Moss??? A little smattering like you say is great! x
